What is 6 s plas?

6S is a lean management tool developed by Motorola in the 1980s. It is used to ensure a clean, organized, safe, and efficient workplace to improve productivity and reduce waste. The six S's stand for Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, and Safety.

  1. Sort: This involves removing any unnecessary materials and tools from the workspace, and only keeping what is essential. This reduces clutter and increases efficiency.

  2. Straighten: This focuses on organizing the remaining tools, materials, and equipment in a logical and efficient way. This makes it easy to find what is needed quickly and eliminates waste of time searching for misplaced items.

  3. Shine: This step involves cleaning the workspace thoroughly, making sure it is free of dirt, dust, and debris. This creates a safer and more pleasant working environment.

  4. Standardize: In this step, procedures and processes are developed to ensure consistency and efficiency. Standard work procedures are clearly defined and communicated to employees.

  5. Sustain: This step involves training and ongoing maintenance of the processes established in the previous steps. Continuous improvement is encouraged, with regular audits and checks to ensure adherence to standards.

  6. Safety: Safety is the final S, which ensures that the work environment is safe for all workers. Safety hazards are eliminated, and policies and procedures are developed to maintain a safe working environment.
